Evansville Startups Advance to Statewide Innovation Showcase
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (July 9, 2019) - Local startup, HELIPONIX©, won the Evansville Regional Pitch Competition hosted at Innovation Pointe for their HELIPONIX© GROPOD™ invention; the first fully automatic growing device for all types of herbs. Also impressing the judges, Safekeeping App snagged 2nd place for their integrated healthcare communication app for residents, families and caregivers in long term care facilities.
Hosted for the 3rd year, the Regional Pitch Competition is an opportunity for companies to share their 5-minute pitches before community members, potential investors, and a panel of judges. HELIPONIX© won a prize package of cash and in-kind services valued at over $5,000. Both HELIPONIX and Safekeeping will advance to the 11th Annual Venture Club of Indiana’s Innovation Showcase on August 11th in Indianapolis.
Heliponix, represented by CEO Scott Massey, has been wildly successful at pitch competitions grossing over $200,000 since 2007.
“Pitch competitions address a serious gap for young founders seeking pre-seed and seed funding to launch their own startup companies,” stated HELIPONIX© CEO, Scott Massey. “Without these resources available to co-found Heliponix, it is unlikely I would have remained in Evansville.”
The event was hosted by the Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville, Elevate Ventures, Evansville Tech on Tap, InGen Technologies, Gutwein Law, and the Venture Club of Indiana. All parties involved felt the event was a success and left many thinking, “could Evansville score back-to-back Indiana Innovation Showcase wins?”
“With last year’s State winner coming from Evansville, we had a high bar to reach but I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the pitches and I am excited about the two companies we are sending on to Indianapolis,” stated Eric Steele, Entrepreneur-in Residence with Elevate Ventures Southwest.
