Learn the basics of 3D design using  AutoDesk 123D (free software) and then bring your design into 3D (pun intended) with one of our plug-and-play machines.  No materials or equipment required, though you are welcome to bring your own laptop. All attendees must be 12 years old+.

What is 3D Design?

3D design is the process of using computer-modeling software to create an object within a three-dimensional space. This means that the object itself has three key values assigned to it, to understand where it exists within the space.

Why use 3D Design?

3D design is another wonderful tool for designers to use because it can bring greater emphasis and visual variety to the elements in our design.

What will I make use 3D Design at MAKE IT Evansville?
During this class, we will first learn how to design in three dimensions using free cloud-based software, such as Autocad 1234, Tinkercad, Inscape, Sketchup, etc. Then, we will learn how to prepare and print those designs on our Flash Forge Creator Pro 3D printers.

About the Instructor:

Dr. Art Chlebowski (Asst. Professor of Engineering at the University of Southern Indiana) – A biomedical engineer with an emphasis in embedded systems design, Dr. Chlebowski’s focus is on design, development, and fabrication of prototyping systems in fields as diverse as wearables to wastewater treatment. Dr. Chlebowski purposely designs his classes for students to learn through safe, hands-on experiences, while using free, cloud-based software that allows students to continue their work anywhere.

*Additional staff will be on-site assisting with the course and participant needs*

What can I make using 3D Design?

  • Film/TV – Used to create CGI characters, objects, environments, animations and titling for movies and commercials
  • Video Game Development – Used to create the entire visual 3D component of the game with many aspects of animation being the same process as used in Film/TV.
  • Architecture – Used to create interactive renderings of buildings and structures; most architectural items are created via 3D CAD modeling for real-life construction.
  • Engineering – Creation of to-scale designs to then be produced in a CNC environment and/or via a more manual, hands-on method of fabrication.
