2020 Annual Report

A Message from Board Chairman, Brad Ellsworth & Chair-Elect, Lynell Walton

Despite the challenges of 2020, The Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville economic development team stayed true to our mission – “Fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation to fuel growth.”

Business attraction activity declined from 2019 given the impact of the Global pandemic on our economy but strengthened in the third quarter and ended surprisingly strong.

Managed by our team, Innovation Pointe continued its reputation as the downtown hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. Several new tenants joined the facility in 2020, and our coworking space, Cowork Evansville, improvised opportunities to accommodate more workers with a special student rate and corporate packages. Makerspace activity at MAKE IT Evansville was impeded a bit, but not completely. Socially distanced hands-on classes were held on topics like CNC machining, X-Carve, Arduino and 3-D printing.

While the activity inside Innovation Pointe remains vibrant, the outside of the building added a vivid addition to Self-e Alley. A second mural with neon depictions of Evansville icons was coordinated by our staff and completed by local artist, Michael Smith with the theme – “You are exactly where you need to be.”

The Growth Alliance was proud to collaborate with our public partners, the Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana, Southwest Indiana Chamber, and many others on “Re-Open Evansville” initiatives that ranged from assisting with creation and distribution of PPE to providing resources for small businesses to access assistance programs, grants and loans. The Boards of the three organizations held monthly joint calls to maximize Evansville’s recovery. Onward and Upward!
